Winter Warmers

This concert was held at our usual venue of St James Church.  From the outside it looked very different as renovations were underway.

The concert of many favourite pieces began with the Sibelius "Karelia Suite" under the baton of Mark Carter. A selection of movements from Bizet's Jeux d'enfants and Grieg's "Peer Gynt " Suite followed.

The strings were featured in two of these movements ....

There followed Debussy's orchestrations of two of Satie's calm and beautiful "Gymnopedies".  Then all the orchestra was heard in the exciting Beethoven's "Egmont" Overture.

The moving variation "Nimrod" of Elgar's "Enigma Variations" was a contrast to the final item - Dvorak's movt 4 of his New World Symphony.

The orchestra then enjoyed playing an encore of Gardel's "Tango".
