2015 Symphony Workshop
Tchaikovsky's 6th - Pathétique
Chilton Saint James School. Lower Hutt
Friday to Sunday, 31st July - 2nd August
Orchestral director: Brent StewartOverview
Orchestral players from the Hutt and afar enjoyed another stimulating
weekend of music making under the inspiring baton of Brent Stewart and
the encouraging tutoring of NZSO players. Players met on Friday evening
for a combined (tutti) play through. HVO members had been practising as
usual on Monday evenings, but this was a much enlarged group.
Friendships with out-of-towners were made or renewed, and so began the
weekend. Saturday was essentially sectional play with NZSO tutors, and
they also contributed to the final tutti rehearsal late in the
afternoon.
Sunday had more work leading up to the 2 pm concert, which was open to
the public. It was an opportunity for
players, friends and family to enjoy Tchaikovsky's very moving
symphony, the last he ever created. The photo at right is of Brent
welcoming our supporters. As it is a workshop, casual dress was fine.
But at least one member of the audience was dressed for an occasion.

The strings.

Horns ... and more brass.

Woodwinds, with a forest of bassoons in the distance.
