2010 August Event
Symphony Workshop Weekend
Wellington East Girls College
Austin Terrace, Wellington
Friday to Sunday, 27-29th August.
Overview
The 2010 Symphony Weekend was as enjoyable as ever. Shostakovich stretched all sections but they rose to the occasion because the sheer challenge and anticipation of playing his 5th was why they were all there. This was helped by the generous tutoring of the NZSO members there throughout the Saturday. There were smiles in abundance after the final concert on the Sunday and we expect players already are anticipating next year's event.
Photos from the weekend.
This year, for the first time, it was held at Wellington East Girls College. Brent (him with the baton) is Head of Music at WEGC. This photo of the main Hall was taken during the final play-through with an appreciative audience of family members.
Players before the final play-through, relaxing, tuning, or practicing some key bars.

A more encompassing view of the record number of players at the workshop. There is ongoing enthusiasm for playing major orchestral works. We are delighted to be able to organise this event and enable people from far and wide to experience the excitement of being in a full symphony orchestra.
The name "Shostakovich" was certainly a big draw-card.
