Programme

Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto - Melanie Lina

Rachmaninoff's 3rd concerto is noted for the technical and musical demands it makes on the performers. (See Wikipedia) We are fortunate to have Melanie Lina playing for us in two concerts. Melanie grew up in Missouri, graduated in Music from Kansas and has an international career. She has recently moved to New Zealand which is where our luck comes in.  

Mascagni. Cavalleria Rusticana

This short opera is set in a Silician Village. There is an synopsis of this very popular opera in Wikipedia. It's all about love, betrayal, seduction and a duel to the death.

The 20 or so songs and instrumental pieces that comprise this one act opera will occupy the rest of the programme. The opera will be unstaged. The singers are with the orchestra on stage.
